CELEBRATING THE IMAGINATION

The imagination is an instrument of liberation, one to which we all have equal access and which serves to celebrate and enlarge our common humanity.

There will also be separate evening events throughout March/April/May. Confirmed participants include Jackie Morris (childrens author/illustrator) ; Zoe Fairbairns (author/poet); Gavin Pretor-Pinney (founder of The Cloud Appreciation Society), Sacha Abercorn (founder of the Pushkin Trust); artist/designer Helen Storey ; environmentalist and founder of Resurgence and The Schumacher College, Satish Kumar; and biologist/writer Colin Tudge.
We are particularly keen to involve children in the celebration and are already receiving the support of local schools. Included in the ‘Celebrating the Imagination’ programme there will be a ’Space to Read’ programme that will involve skills development, resource building and creative interventions designed to inspire a vibrant reading culture; an ABC children’s literary event that will involve workshops with children and children’s authors; and an outdoor literacy programme, called Wild Words, that will take place over the 2013 Easter break.
To involve local authors and poets, a ’fringe’ series of events will take place at Sun Street Chapel, Frome. Confirmed participants so far include Helen Moore, Rose Flint and Niall McDevitt, with more being invited.
